Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Naureen Agha.

Dr. Naureen, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.I’m a primary care physician who loves to connect and talk to her patients. I trained at the rigorous Baylor College of Medicine in Houston at the Texas Medical Center and worked for ten years with my husband at his Gastroenterology practice. While I truly enjoyed that, my passion has always been to get to know the whole patient and treat he or she as a whole person.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?No, not always smooth! There were lots of naysayers along the way telling me that spending time and being available would not be productive and that I would burn out. Luckily, my patients remind me every day that this practice is worth it and that they appreciate feeling cared for.

I’ve also never managed a business before and have had to learn about HR, hiring, Texas laws, insurance, medical ordering, etc. I’ve also learned that I’m a pretty good negotiator and that everything can be negotiated and not to accept the first answer as the final.

I’ve also learned to trust my judgement and that I will always be learning and that is perfectly okay!

We’d love to hear more about your practice.I started my Primary care practice in 2019 to realize my dream of providing top-quality care. Modern medicine means frequent changes in coverage, deductibles, prior authorizations and this can be just too much for patients. I am the first Doctor most patients see for a new problem and am their guide and advocate. Daily, I help patients navigate this complex medical world. It’s a lot of work and this is why I want to present an organized and methodical process to my patients. I work with some of the best consultants in the city and make sure that those doctors are really listening and caring for my patients.

Our office is beautiful and calming. It’s comfortable for families and wheelchairs alike. I’m interested in keeping patients WELL and not just treating acute problems.

When a patient contacts my office they will have access to a portal which we answer multiple times a day. Patients are surprised when they get a response within minutes! We are also always available for those who just want to call and hear a voice. Check-in is done via iPad and is seamless. However, the technology ends once I enter the room. I am not typing away during our visit. We maintain eye contact and I have a handy pencil and my signature blue notebook ready for notes. I want to remain present during our interview and really hear and see what’s going on with my patient’s health and how their personal lives can affect their health.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?I’m excited to add bio-identical hormones to my practice. Every day I get asked about hormonal balance and there really is a need to address this. I’m also providing Botox and other skin solutions to my current patients. Weight loss and anxiety treatments using a multispecialty approach are some of my favorite therapies.
